Immunotherapy and Vaccines

Immunotherapy combined with vaccines represents a promising approach to treating chronic diseases, particularly cancer. Cancer vaccines work by stimulating the immune system to recognize and attack tumor-specific antigens, while immunotherapy agents, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors, boost the immune response by countering cancer’s ability to evade immune detection. When used together, vaccines “teach” the immune system to target cancer cells, while immunotherapy amplifies this response, breaking down barriers that suppress immune activity around tumors. This synergy can lead to a more sustained and aggressive immune attack against cancer, improving treatment efficacy. This combination strategy is under intense study in clinical trials, especially for cancers that are hard to treat, like melanoma and lung cancer, where traditional treatments alone may not be effective.
