Combining vaccines with immunotherapy holds promise for tackling challenging infections and cancers by enhancing the body's immune response. While vaccines prime the immune system to recognize specific antigens, immunotherapies such as checkpoint inhibitors or cytokine therapies further stimulate immune cells to attack infected or cancerous cells more aggressively. This combination is particularly beneficial in cancer treatment, where the immune system needs additional support to recognize and destroy tumor cells effectively. Vaccine and immunotherapy combinations are currently under investigation for treating cancers such as melanoma, where they show potential in improving survival rates. By leveraging both preventive and therapeutic immune activation, these combinations open new avenues in the fight against not only chronic infections but also various types of cancer.
