Title : Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of transient ischemic stroke: A comprehensive review

Abstract:

Introduction:

Transient ischemic stroke (TIA) is a critical neurological event characterized by temporary disruption of blood flow to the brain, leading to transient neurological symptoms. Despite its transient nature, TIAs are important predictors of subsequent stroke and require prompt diagnosis and management. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the clinical manifestations and diagnostic strategies for TIA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this review is to summarize the diverse clinical presentations of TIA, discuss the differential diagnosis, and evaluate the utility of various diagnostic modalities in accurately identifying TIA cases.

Materials and Methods:

A thorough search of medical literature databases was conducted to identify relevant studies and reviews on the clinical manifestations and diagnosis of TIA. Studies reporting on TIA symptoms, diagnostic criteria, and imaging techniques were included in the analysis.

Results:

Clinical manifestations of TIA can vary widely depending on the affected vascular territory within the brain. Common neurological symptoms include transient unilateral weakness, numbness, visual disturbances, speech difficulties, and dizziness. The ABCD2 score is a widely used tool for risk stratification and prognosis assessment in suspected TIA cases. Imaging modalities such as MRI, CT angiography, and carotid ultrasound play crucial roles in confirming the diagnosis of TIA and identifying underlying etiologies such as atherosclerosis, embolism, or stenosis.

Conclusion:

Early recognition and accurate diagnosis of TIA are essential for initiating appropriate interventions to prevent recurrent strokes and minimize long-term disability. A comprehensive understanding of the diverse clinical manifestations and utilization of advanced imaging techniques are paramount in the diagnostic workup of TIA. Future research should focus on refining diagnostic criteria and exploring novel biomarkers to improve the early detection and management of TIA.
