Biography:
Dr. Xiaojian Yao, PhD and MD, Professor, is the director of the Laboratory of Molecular Human Retrovirology, in the Department of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He obtained his M.D., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees, respectively, at Suzhou Medical University, the National Institute for the Control of Pharma & Biol. products in China, and the University of Montreal. Dr. Yao’s research projects have been in fundamental research to explore HIV and host protein interactions and their functional roles during HIV-1 replication, and the development of new approaches against HIV-1. In recent years, his lab has also focused on developing multivalent vaccines against different high-risk viral and bacterial pathogens, including HIV-1, SARS-CoV-2, influenza A viruses and urogenital chlamydia.
